Life in the 90’s Interview
Instructions
Find someone to interview. They must have lived in the 90s (so try find someone who is
28 or older):
You can easily interview someone from your Whanau
(try your parents of even better your grandparents)
Email a teacher at school
Ask them these interview questions, and write down their answers.
Who are you interviewing?
What is their name?
-Christina
How old were they in the 90’s?
-Primary School Age
Questions to ask the person you are interviewing.
Tell me about what School/ Work was like for you in the 90’s
-School was better, no uniforms- always mufti. The tuck shop was so
cheap (everything was cheaper) we would make up lots of games to
play with our friends out of bottle caps, using marbles, playing bullrush,
go-home-stay-home, cops and robbers, bat down etc., school galas
were much better too. No need for the internet or devices back in those days.
What was your TV like in the 90’s?
- It was a bulky big old school TV which needed the “bunny ear” antenna, and
even then the static was too much. It didn’t have a remote but we used to push
the button to change the channel on the TV itself (there were only 4 buttons).
Sometimes we would get the chair and stand it by the TV, moving the antenna
around until Dad said “STOP!” and we would pin or tape the antenna to the
wall so we could watch TV without too much static.
How did you contact your friends in the 90’s?
- I would either walk, bike or use my roller blades to go to my friends houses
and call their name from the front of their house. Sometimes if they didn’t
come out I would go and knock on the door. We had a landline but only Dad
could use it.
What was your family car like in the 90’s?
- My dad had a 1972 purple Ford Cortina throughout the whole 90s decade,
the car seems so cool and vintage now, but back then I used to make my
poor Dad park down the road from school (before and after school) and then
I would wait for everyone to leave before I would go out to the car because I
was embarrassed! Lol
What was your favourite thing about the 90’s?
- Everything. My favourite memories are from that decade. I want to be stuck
in the 90s! School, music, fashion was the best back then. Even dad’s purple
Ford Cortina I would have to miss the most.
Question for you to answer.
Based on the answers you received.
Do you think you would like living in the 90’s?
- Yes/No
Why?
-- I would love to live in the 90’s. We don’t need phones, you can just talk to your friends and walk over to their house. Right now I would love to walk to my friends house because sometimes I don’t get to and it would be really fun to do that. I love how people used to respect each other and I love how they always wanted to be family with some other people. Right now some people are not doing that and that is really sad. So, yes I want to live in the 90’s.
